This is a SUPERIOR EXAMPLE of a RARE EARLY MINIATURE OGEE; Seth Thomas mantel clock in ALL ORIGINAL CONDITION made circa 1850 WITH THE RARE ROUND MOVEMENT. This movement is the most rare of all Seth Thomas clocks. This is American History at its finest! Seth Thomas was noted for making extremely high quality clocks. Seth Thomas was an apprentice to the famous Eli Terry around 1810. He sent off on his own and founded the Seth Thomas Clock Company, which was in the family until the 1960s! The reason they stayed in business is that Seth Thomas Sr. and all of his ancestors insisted upon building high quality clocks - clocks you could depend on. His home town even named the town after him "Thomaston, Conn." In 1865. This clock has the original heavy duty RARE ROUND 30 hour TIME AND STRIKE movement. In fact it's all-original, with the dial in very good condition. The dial was replaced many years ago. The case is in very beautiful condition and has a very beautiful finish. The case is outstanding. The top and bottom glass is the original wavy glass. The clock works perfectly and keeps very good time. It has the heavy duty 30 hour "hip" time and strike movement signed Seth Thomas Thomaston. The clock strikes the hour on the hour on a really great, bold sounding gong.
