This is a very nice set offour Metlox Poppy-Trail Medallionbread plates, made in California.Each of the plates are numbered 1174. All are in very nice condition with no chips or cracks and each measures 6.5". As far as the history of this company, the following summarizes their years of operation and the onset of this particular pattern; Metlox created art pottery and dinnerware during its operation from 1927 until 1989. T.C. and son Willis Prouty opened their California-based firm to sell architectural tiles in 1921. The Prouty’s lived in Hermosa Beach in 1919 and experimented with talcs from various areas of the state to create a quality tile product. This patented product formed the basic ware of the Proutyline Products Company which opened in 1922. This company created Hermosa Tile until it was sold to American Encaustic Tiling Company of Ohio in 1926. Father and son opened Metlox Manufacturing Company as a division of the Proutyline in 1927. Metlox is the name used for metal oxide. The new company opened a state of the art building in Manhattan Beach, just a few blocks away from the ocean. The main product of Metlox was outdoor signs that were molded in five styles. The most famous products could be seen on the Pathe Studio and the Pantages and Warner Brothers Theaters.
