LEGACY pattern - moded for today and tomorrow, but bequeathed with the artistry of four generations." * UP FOR AUCTION: A pair of stunning silver plated salt & pepper shakers, made especially to match flatware in the handsome Art Deco pattern LEGACY , patented in 1928 by the International Silver Company under its 1847 ROGERS BROS. backstamp. The finials on these shakers are quite striking: they look like a cross between a spinning top toy and a space ship, with a delicate attachment to the rest of the top ... absolutely fabulous! The holes in one of the tops are larger (for salt), and the holes in the other top are smaller (for pepper ... although, personally, Iâe(tm)d prefer to use smaller holes for salt and larger holes for pepper). The bodies of these shakers feature an appealing geometric design ... a design which is as subtle as the matching LEGACY flatware, and yet much more magnificent and stately than the matching flatware. At the base of each shaker is a broad base/foot, making it quite stable. These salt & pepper shakers are shown in Bones & Fisherâe(tm)s book on silverplated flatware and hollow ware. Collectors are particularly fond of finding hollow ware which matches their flatware ... which, frankly, can be hard to do. For whatever it is worth, this is the first time we ever have seen LEGACY salt & pepper shakers. CONDITION: Excellent used condition. The silver plating seems to be intact, with the exception of: hard-to-see minor plating compromise on the "hard edges" of the top of the shaker bodies; four spots of pre-corrosive changes on one of the shaker bodies. T are no apparent dings or dents, although I did spy two teeny tiny pinpoint "bump" marks. Minor surface scratches. These "flaws" are things which might be noticed by someone whoâe(tm)s a nitpicker (like me) ... but truly, they do not detract from the beauty of these pieces. Most hostesses would have no qualms about placing these shakers on a formal dining table.
