Offering an RS Prussia Saxe Altenburg Cupid Series 1 tea set, teapot, cream pitcher and sugar bowl made circa 1900. The teapot is 6" high and 6 1/2" wide from spout to handle edge. The creamer is 4"high and 4 1/2" from spout to handle. The sugar bowl is 4 1/2" high to the top of the finial and 5" across the handles. The set is in mold 3 with split handles, flower finials and molded flowers (poppies?) and leaves around the borders. Decorated with a purple background with green and yellow painted flowers and leaves. Tan handles and finials. Gold stenciled leaves and small pink and yellow flower transfers as well. Each piece has a cartouche of a scene of cherubs playing. These transfers are part of the cupid series. Glossy iridescent Tiffany finish. A lovely color palette. Both have the red Saxe Altenburg Germany mark. The set, with the same decor, is shown in Marple's R. S. Prussia The Art Nouveau Years , page 124. The cupid series transfers are shown on page 164. The condition is excellent. One tiny chip on the inner rim of the sugar bowl lid. Some minor gold loss. The set has been well loved. Visit my store to see other interesting R S Prussia items.
