Sepia-toned real photo postcard of The Fairmont Hotel, 950 Mason Street, atop Nob Hill, San Francisco, California, following the 1906 earthquake, by Waters & Co. The hotel was nearly completed before the earthquake, and though the structure survived, the interior was heavily damaged by fire, which delayed its opening until 1907. A female architect and engineer, Julia Morgan, was hired to repair the building because of her then innovative use of reinforced concrete, which could produce buildings capable of withstanding earthquakes and other disasters. In very fine, unused condition -- very minor corner wear. Please see scans.
