This rare American Revolutionary War era newspaper is fresh from the attic of a Newport, Rhode Island estate. This issue of the PROVIDENCE GAZETTE AND COUNTRY JOURNAL was printed by John Carter on Saturday, September 14, 1782. This rare issue features an article titled "On the subject of and American Navy" . This article was written by Benjamin rush but was signed "Leonidas" a pseudonym Rush frequently used. Most of the news in this issue deals with the war in South Carolina. In addition to war news t are several interesting advertisements including rewards for runaway prisoners and slaves and an ad for a slave for sale.
