You've probably all seen the fantastic "Coronation Box" but maybe not this very special lidded one. This style of solid sterling silver ring box was produced by Henry Birks & Sons as a limited edition box to commemorate the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II. It was in production for just over two years - mid-1950 to early 1953. The fabulous gadroon edging on the top and bottom of the box is meant to represent a crown and gives this box its name "Coronation". This particular box, with its very special lid, (the "BB" logo is embossed on the top) was given only with the most expensive rings and didn't even make it into any of Birks' catalogues!!!! The ring box is 1 3/4" tall and is just under 2" across at its base. The exterior is MINT - no dings, pings, dents or scratches - absolutely PERFECT. (please excuse my photos, which tend to pick up all sorts of overhead glare and reflection). The hinge is nice and tight and the lid-to-base fit is snug and perfectly straight. The black velvet single slot ring pad and ribbed trim are original to the box and in really great condition. The satin trim has become a bit discolored with age and the velvet cushion does show some wear but it the satin trim is not frayed and the velvet is not ripped or torn - the box interior is still extremely presentable and the satin trim could be cleaned up with a read more
