A Quaker needlework samplerMary Brinton Jones (1795-1856), Westtown School, Chester County, PA, dated, "1810"Polychrome silk threads worked in an Ackworth School manner on linen ground, the initials representing Westtown classmates, framed.10 1/4 in. x 15 in. (sight)PROVENANCE:By descent in family to the present owners.Many of the initials are identified in notes accompanying needlework. The daughter of Quaker activists, Samuel and Lydia Crosley Jones, Mary B. Jones was born in Birmingham, Chester County. She married Townsend Sharpless (1793-1863), a successful Philadelphia Dry Goods merchant, at the Birmingham Meeting in 1815. The couple had two daughters.
