Each supplier has their own version as not all goats are sheared twice a year, some only once a year to allow for longer locks.I am offering various amounts of Kid, Yearling and Adult Mohair -- at least 6-7" in length, some 8-12". The picture shown is the exact mohair you will be receiving - I do not use "stock" pictures of my mohair.The Kitten shown below was reborned by myself and was rooted using my Laurie Yearling Mohair - Medium Brown.Welcome to "The Child Within Nursery's Line of Mohair"Premium Mohair -- Kid, Yearling and Adult AvailableMy name is Judy Hillman and I have decided to try my hand at processing mohair for reborning. I have been dyeing my own mohair for quite a while now and decided to process the mohair (whole fleece) for other reborners.I only purchase top quality mohair from the best angora goat farms in the counry and use only acid dyes made especially for mohair. I purchase "raw" whole fleece and wash it in small batches making sure I rinse all the soap out so that the dyes will take. I allow it to dry. I then sort through the locks to determine which locks I will be using for reborning. I comb each lock to make sure the dyes will soak through all the hairs. I then begin the dyeing process, then wash again making sure the water runs clear so that the dyes don't bleed onto your doll head when rooting. I repeat this rinsing process two or three times, then I condition it with our own formula of conditioner. I then lay it out on drying racks untill completely dry. I then comb it again, conditioning as I comb through to make sure there are no tangles. I always try to comb each lock with the top of the lock at the top for those who root from the base of the lock. I then bundle them in small batches. Sometimes I do not bundle the mohair for those who root from the middle but always trying to make sure the tops are at the top of the batch.I do not always dye our hair tied, however there are times when I have to tie and then dye due to the mohair, but generally I do not as I do not want to waste the tops of the mohair where the rubber bands are wrapped and the dye does not take. I try to tie it once dyed and combed to keep the mohair in manageable sections, especially for shipping. You simply have to cut the rubber band and begin rooting. It's that simple.I always try my best to make sure the tops of the mohair are going in the right direction for those who root from the top end, but sometimes strands get turned upside down. If this happens, I do apologize. Thanks.The conditioner I use is a special blend I have developed which usually does not cause the darker dyed mohair to bleed, however, there is still a slight chance it might bleed, especially if you are using your own leave-in conditioner when rooting. Certain brands of leave-in conditioners can cause the dyes to run, please test your conditioners prior to using them. I also ask that you test the darker colors to avoid any bleeding by simply taking a lock and running it under warm water to see if any dye bleeds out. If not, then you are good to go. If the dye bleeds out in your water you will have to repeat this process for the remainder of the mohair purchased.I do not use harsh chemicals when processing my mohair. I use hot water, dawn dishwashing liquid (good for the ducks and is good for my mohair) and vinegar and citric acid to set the dyes and of course our own conditioner. read more
