Offered in this Auction is a Plains shield made by me, Bob Brewer. The shield itself is 1/4-3/8 inch thick buffalo bull rawhide. The hair has been slipped off and the dried hide pounded with an axe . Arm and fringed shoulder straps and hanging loop of brain tanned buckskin are attached through holes burned into the rawhide. Painted on the front. 18 inches in diameter. The pictographic battle scene painted shield cover is brain tanned buckskin decorated with red painted sinew wrapped dyed yellow turkey feathers. The black feathers have red dyed horse hair and yellow pigment glued to the tips. Brass hawk bells are tied to some of the thongs.. Most painting done with paint cookies. Made to look old. I'll insure for whatever it sells for.
