French solid silver shot, liqueur or medicine cup/tiny beaker, with twelve vertical face panels and gilt interior. There is an ownership device engraved on the base formed as an oval garter enclosing a cornucopia. The piece weighs .82 troy ounces and measures 1 3/8 inches high and 1 1/4 inches in diameter at the opening and 1 3/16 inches in diameter at the base. Struck with two marks on two upper side panels: one a leaf and "2" Paris 1785 discharge mark, and the other a head in oval for Petit Recense, Paris 1797. Also struck with three other French marks on the base: -the maker at the center point (likely "JSP" with a crowned fleur de lys and a "mont d'or" for Jean-Simon Pontaneau, master in Paris from 1776, still working in 1792), -a crowned "P" (likely the mark of the maison commune of 1789) , and -an "A" with "12" (partially obscured) Paris charge mark of the 1780"s. (We take these mark attributions from the book Poincons D'Argent, by Tardy and the maker from Dictionaire des Poincons de Maitres-Orfevres Francais, by Beuque & Frapsauce) There's one tiny ding on one lower panel, and super tiny dings and fine shallow surface scratches overall, otherwise in fine antique condition. A very sweet little beaker.
