Orlando Furioso: Translated From The Italian Of Ludovico Ariosto; With Notes; By John Hoole. In Five Volumes. London: Printed For Otridge & Son........1799. Five engraved frontispieces, engraved title page in volume 1, and the William Blake engraving at page 164 of volume 3. All of the engravings are foxed and the adjacent leaves foxed as well. Bound in contemporary tree calf. The bindings are in rough condition. All extremities are worn and chipped. Four volumes have cracked hinges with bindings still attached. The covers of volume 3 are detached. Each volume has the bookplate of Harold Jefferson Coolidge, descendant of Thomas Jefferson and founder of the World Wildlife Fund. In each volume the blank leaf preceding the half-title has been removed. I think it was removed because it bore an owner's name in ink. Traces of the ink remain on the opposite page. Books measure 8 and 1/2 inches by 5 and 1/2 inches.
