Offered is a 9 1/2" X 12 1/2" (outside frame dimensions) limited edition print of Ernest Fiene's "Sunset" done around 1948. The hole cut in the matting is about 4 1/4" X 5 1/2". Two hundred of these miniature prints were published by the Associated American Artists and listed in its 1948 catalog , which is the only basis for dating the print. Most AAA editions were impressions of 250, but they published their miniatures in editions of 200. The print is signed in pencil by the artist on the lower right. The label on the back of the print gives information about the artist and is the only place the title (Sunset) appears. Below this label is the AAA label with addresses for its galleries. The printer was George C Miller. At least two public collections hold this print: (1) The Brooklyn Museum, and (2) The Zimmerli Art Museum at Rutgers University.Ernest Fiene (1894-1965) was a painter, graphic artist, and educator. He was well-known and widely exhibited from the mid-1920's through the 1940's. His work was collected by many notable institutions, including the Art Institute of Chicago; Smithsonian American Art Museum; Library of Congress; and Whitney Museum of American Art, among others. During World War II he created paintings for war bond posters. Please review pictures in this listing carefully. They are an integral part of the description.
