This is a wonderful antique prairie dress that is just like the ones Tasha Tudor used to wear at her homestead and I'm sure she would have just adored this one! :) It's was never worn much so the fabric is still just like new overall but it's an old original one and not newly made. Check out the pics and believe me it's MUCH better in person than they could ever show you.It's both hand and treadle sewn from the best old winter weight black calico and has an inside button up muslin bodice which is typical of this prairie wrapper style. There are buttons on the front under the neckline. It has a belt that hooks at the waist so you can wear it fastened in the front or the back. Many women wore these as daily chore work dresses and they also accommodated the days of pregnancy by fastening the waist in the back so the front could remain free for the growing tummy. As you can see from the pics there is tan trim around the top and sleeves and the bottom is a long ruffle and it can be altered if you need it to be longer or shorter.Measurements are:Shoulder to shoulder: 16 inchesChest: 32-34 inchesWaist: 40+ inchesOverall Length: 59 inchesAs we already mentioned this has never been worn much if at all and we've had it in an early textile display for quite a long time.
