Some of the topics covered in this magazine: Coverage of 19th Century baseball including Red Stockings, Harry Wright, etc; contains other nice woodcut drawings, but I didn't scan them for fear of damaging the magazine; full page ad of Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonder Land. Offered is the original issue of Oliver Optic's Magazine: Our Boys and Girls listed in the title and shown in the pictures above. This hugely popular magazine was published weekly from 1867-1870, then monthly from 1871-1875. By the time it ceased publication in 1875, it was the most popular children's magazine in the United States with a circulation of around 100,000. It was published in Boston by Lee & Shepard beginning in January 1867 by William Taylor Adams whose pen name was Oliver Optic. Single copies were 6¢ and yearly subscriptions were $2.50. Contents included puzzles, dialogues, stories, poetry, illustrations, advertisements, etc., as well as baseball coverage of the game's leading amateur teams of the day . At the time I listed this issue, I had 21 issues of this magazine listed on EBAY, so check out the others.
