Oil drilling steam engine cast iron sign builders plate;Ajax Iron Works of Corry, Pennsylvania.I believe this individually made cast iron plate is off a vintage Ajax steam engine developed specially for powering drilling and pumping in 19 th century oil fields. If you search online for Ajax steam engines, you’ll find pictures and descriptions of them and the history of Ajax Iron Work, located in Corry, PA. The stylized image of an oil derrick (well) is at the top of the Ajax sign. If this information is NOT correct, I’d appreciate hearing abouty it so I can correct the listing. Sign is made as a single complete piece with four countersunk mounting holes. It is not ripped out or cut out of a larger frame or other structure. Never repainted; remaining original paint as shown in photos. 20 X 5¼ overall; a little over one-half inch thick. Approx 14 lbs before packing materials are added.
