Man was never meant to have more than 7 (Okay...8!) cogs on the rear wheel of a bike. 2.The shifting brake levers out there cater to the world of high performance road racing and are heavy and enormously expensive. Now look at a road embarked upon-but not taken.... Offering an upper bar-mounted Shimano "Exage Motion" shifter set, NEW in its original packaging: the listing's first two images show a duplicate, mounted set. These shifters are extremely lightweight and thoughtfully designed. They mount on the outer edge of the standard center collar of a drop handlebar and shifting takes place very close to the brake lever via an wide, ergonomically-designed lever with its pivot point in the center. It can be positioned to suit the rider's taste. Shifting is done with the "heel" of the hand and lower part of the thumb, where they fit quite comfortably. NOTE: Though designed for road (drop) handlebars as described above, these shifters will also work well on straight bars and can be mounted right close to the brake levers as done with thumb shifters, etc. (you will need to build up the typical MTB bar diameters). ALSO: easy to imagine these installed at the peak of a triathlon extension bar.
