For sale is a rare and unique opportunity to own a peice of local legal history! The peices for sale were said to have been reclaimed from the original courthouse in Murphysboro, Illinois. This was a very old building...(the NEW courthouse was built in the 1920's! These historic peices came from the estate of a former well known area judge. Included in the sale is a beautiful carved newell post including heavily carved wood trim (floral and leaf patterns), staircase handrail, down rail, balusters, leather topped judges bench, judges filing cabinet, and several ends to the jurors boxes, witness stand and spectator seating. Below is a listing of the items and the total number of each item that is included in this package deal. The peices can be used now or restored, depending on the look that you are wanting to achieve. I believe that the wood is walnut or chestnut. I do not know what species the wood for sure, it may not be either. It is very nice material. There is a small crack at the top of the newel post that would be covered by the trim once it is applied. The trim is very ornate. The handrail section attaches to the fourth peice of newel post trim. 1. Newel post with carved trim, cap, handrail attachement.2. Wooden staircase handrail with balusters.3.
