A MYSTERY THAT NEEDS SOLVING! ANTIQUE OR VINTAGE FENCING FOIL EPEE SABRE SWORD WITH ROMAN HEAD POMMEL This auction features one interesting 42 1/2 inch long mystery ~ I have no idea after two hours of research what the heck it is other than probably an epee fencing blade or a decorative piece. It feels like it has some age to it but clearly I know very little about the art of fencing. Any wisdom that might come my way would be greatly appreciated! This neat "thing" comes from a collection of "kicked to the curb ex fiance with exceptional taste" man toys. I am beyond motivated to share the spoils of war with (I certainly hope) the better behaved men and women of eBay. His loss is our gain! This foil (please forgive my probable misuse of words here) measures 42 1/2 inches long from the top of pommel to the tip of the blade. The detail of the scrolled handle is gorgeous and measures 6 1/2 inches wide. This handle looks like cast metal as does the pommel of the Ben Hur like helmeted Roman soldier (please see detailed photos). It has an overall solid, balanced weight and shows very interesting wear although I have no idea if it was ever actually used in competition. I can find no markings anywhere but read more
