Musketeer Parrying Dagger Fully Functional During the course of the 16th century, the rapier slowly eclipsed the classic sword as a gentleman's weapon of choice. As part of this development, thrusting techniques gradually replaced cutting techniques, which meant that a shield was too bulky to be effective. Carried in the left hand (assuming that the sword fighter is right-handed), the parrying dagger emerged as protection against thrusts to the left side.Our parrying dagger has a double-edged blade with blade catchers and reinforcing fullers integrated into the ricasso. The long blade is topped by a knuckle bow decorated with a cross and fleur de lis. The metal grip of this parrying dagger is wrapped with fine wire and it has a pleasant heft.
