Rebirth (Amaryllis) is a 20x20 inch mixed media acrylic on canvas. Microscope slides inspired the painting. Initially, the images were painted with acrylic and gesso, and finally the details were added using Prismacolor Premier colored pencils.Kathryn B. Launey is a contemporary surrealist. Her art combines her wonder of the natural world and how patterns reveal the fingerprint of God in everything. This particular piece reveals the depth and complexity of the microscopic expanse that we so often ignore. One observation that surprised the artist was that the brilliant color were more and more muted as the magnification increased. The painting was exhibited in Launey's solo show, Evolution of an Artist, at Louisburg College, October - November, 2020. Students, faculty, and staff were able to view the exhibition face-to-face, otherwise, it was released as a virtual show.The piece is framed in an antique gold floating frame. It is wired for hanging.
