Here is an antique Meissen compote with acanthus leaves in very high relief and an impressive amount of gilding. I think the photos tell the story, so check out the detailing for yourself. The top is large, twelve and a half inches in diameter, and the compote stands six and a half inches tall. The top and the base are joined by a metal bolt with a head that is styled to complement the top of the dish where it comes through. The crossed swords mark on the top portion has been mostly obliterated by the hole the bolt goes through, but there is another crossed swords on the bottom, along with other painted and incised marks. I would date this to the last part of the nineteenth century. There is some wear to the gilding but no damage to the porcelain. C448
