Very nice substantial platter (16.5 inches in diameter) with coupe shape, purchased just a few years prior to Mr. Lee McCarty's passing. This is 1st quality and signed on underside w McCarty's etched into bisque part underneath. The nutmeg with an edge glaze has been highly sought; the deep blue green borders around the nutmeg are lovely. This size platter with the combination of glazes is not a common piece and not often found in stores. The gradual sloping upward (coupe shape) is wonderful to keep your food contained and buffet, island, or table neat. The flat center is perfect if you desire to place a nutmeg dip dish (tripod, old fashioned, shell) to hold cocktail sauce or dips, while the shrimp or chips or relishes can stack around. This will also be a lovely meat platter - lots of possibilities! The plate is quite durable, so you may alternate between displaying on an easel and special use. The McCartys designed their pieces for FUNCTION and form! SIGNED MCCARTYS ON THE UNDERSIDE from Merigold, Mississippi. This platter was never used for food serving purposes, but I placed little sticky feet on the underside - nice, unobtrusive, clear ones on the bisque part to prevent fine scratches from occurring on a fine table. This was strongly recommended to me, as unglazed pottery undersides will cause some very fine scratches over time read more
