The estate of the late entertainer, Kaye Ballard (1925-2019) is putting up for auction several items of memorabilia and personal items that were in Ms. Ballard's possession in her home at the time of her passing. Signatures are original and not reproductions. Watermarks that appear in the photo(s) are not on the actual item. All items sold by the Kaye Ballard Estate were in her home at the time of her passing.Autographed photo signed by actor Maurice Chevalier inscribed to actress, singer, and comedienne, Kaye Ballard (1925-2019) with the inscription, To Kaye Ballard / From her newest admirer - and / lover. / Maurice / Chevalier / 1965 in blue ink.This photo, in a plastic case, was hanging on a wall in a room in Kaye Ballard's home - along with dozens of other signed celebrity photos - at the time of Kaye's passing on January 21, 2019. (See attached photo of the wall in Kaye Ballard's home that highlights the placement of the photo on Kaye's wall.) The photo with the case measures 8.1875" x 10.1875" x 1.375". The plastic case has scuff marks and shows some light wear. The photo itself measures 8" x 10" and is in very good condition (see photos).Maurice Chevalier (September 12, 1888 â January 1, 1972) was a French actor, cabaret singer and entertainer. He is perhaps best known for his signature songs, including "Livin' In The Sunlight" , "Valentine", "Louise", "Mimi", and "Thank Heaven for Little Girls" and for his films, including THE LOVE PARADE, THE BIG POND, THE SMILING LIEUTENANT, ONE HOUR WITH YOUR and LOVE ME TONIGHT. His trademark attire was a boater hat, which he always wore on stage with a tuxedo. Chevalier was born in Paris. He made his name as a star of musical comedy, appearing in public as a singer and dancer at an early age before working in menial jobs as a teenager. In 1909, he became the partner of the biggest female star in France at the time, FrÃ©hel. Although their relationship was brief, she secured him his first major engagement, as a mimic and a singer in L'ALCAZAR IN MARSEILLE, for which he received critical acclaim by French theatre critics. In 1917, he discovered jazz and ragtime and went to London, where he found new success at the Palace Theatre. After this, he toured the United States, where he met the American composers George Gershwin and Irving Berlin and brought the operetta DÃdÃ to Broadway in 1922. He developed an interest in acting and had success in DÃdÃ. When talkies arrived, he went to Hollywood in 1928, where he played his first American role in INNOCENTS OF PARIS. In 1930, he was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actor for his roles in THE LOVE PARADE (1929) and THE BIG POND (1930), which secured his first big American hits, "You Brought a New Kind of Love to Me" and "Livin' in the Sunlight, Lovin' in the Moonlight". In 1957, he appeared in LOVE IN THE AFTERNOON, which was his first Hollywood film in more than 20 years. In 1958, he starred with Leslie Caron and Louis Jourdan in GIGI. In the early 1960s, he made eight films, including CAN-CAN in 1960 and FANNY the following year. In 1970, he made his final contribution to the film industry where he sang the title song of the Disney film THE ARISTOCATS. He died in Paris, on January 1, 1972, aged 83.Kaye Ballard was born on November 20, 1925 in Cleveland, Ohio. Since then she has been on the cover of LIFE magazine, played the Tooth Fairy on CAPTAIN KANGAROO, and sipped tea in the Bronx with Mother Teresa. She knew she wanted to perform by the time she was five, and even before graduating high school, began to find work doing imitations of her favorite stars all around Ohio. Kaye performed in both Burlesque and Vaudeville, and before discovering the musical theatre, toured with the Spike Jones Orchestra for two years as featured vocalist and tuba player.She went on to play every name nightclub that existed throughout the 1950's and '60's including The Bon Soir and The Blue Angel in New York, The Hungry i in San Francisco, and Mr. Kelly's in Chicago.
