Malachite Tumblestone Large This well known gemstone has been known in Egypt since at least 3000 BC. and is named after the Greek word for 'mallow', a green herb. It has been popular with the ancient Romans and Greeks for making eye make-up, jewellery and decorative ornaments. Malachite is a fairly soft mineral with a hardness of 3.5 to 4. Measures approx. 4.3 cms x 4.1 cms x 1.5 cms. Malachite is a talisman for children and is also the gemstone for the thirteenth year of marriage. It is believed that holding or gazing at Malachite relaxes the nervous system and calms stormy emotions. because of the copper content Malachite is said to be exellent for rheumatism.
