Offered for sale, a 1980's figural brooch created by an Italian immigrant designer Luigi Guadagno, manufactured by Ultra Craft, the jewelry company he founded in Rhode Island, in 1970. Many of his pieces were released in small quantities. They are somewhat rare and very collectible. Cat brooches were one of his favorite subjects. This particular one has a western theme with a cat wearing a western hat, bandana, carrying a gold-accented gun in holster and rope ready to lasso. Other than the gold accents, the brooch has silver tone or pewter finishes: satin, hammered, and brushed. The face of the cat is open work. It has a bar clasp, not rollover, but open. It is signed "ULTRA CRAFT," with copyright symbol to the right. It measures 2 1/2" in height; 2 1/2" in width (including lasso). It is in very good condition.FYI: Luigi Guadagno was a member of the International Fashion Jewelry and Accessories Association. He contributed in creating crowns for the Miss America and Miss Universe pageants in the 1980's. He died at the age of 66 in 2002.
