I am pretty certain that this is a valve for a live steam system. It is beautifully made and is approx 1 3/8 inches in length. The coupling is threaded both sides at approx 3/8 inch diameter. I think that it is quite old as it was in a collection of stuff that belonged to my late father, however it has never been used and therefore I have listed it new.
