This auction is for ONE authentic MORGAN County Ohio Soldier's Ballot cast for Lincoln / Johnson in the Presidential Election of November 8, 1864. Imprinted for use by a soldier from MORGAN County. Back is blank but shows signs of being folded . Ballot Size: about 2.8 in. wide by 7.5 in. high. B & W. Condition: GOOD showing normal age toning for an artifact 151 years old with some aging on the edges and signs of being folded . As a result of the counting process, it has TWO pin holes. Ohio law did not require the ballot be signed although some were. Ticket is another name for Ballot.Remember, ballots were carried by soldiers fighting a War. The Government DID NOT provide ballots. A Political Party usually distributed ballots already imprinted with the name of the Soldier's & Sailor's resident county. Often Soldiers & Sailors used a ballot intended for use for another county simply by crossing out or pasting over the imprinted county name. However, some ballots were generic and used for any county just by writing on a county name. Handwritten ballots were accepted.In the Presidential Election of 1864, Abraham Lincoln (a Republican) and Andrew Johnson ( a Former Democrat) ran together on the National Union Party Ticket.
