Description: This is a wonderful Liberty pewter box with enamel panel. The rectangular pewter box, with cedarlining, has a marvelous enamel panel that depicts a man in a boat in the foreground and the ruins of an English (possibly Fountains Abbey, Yorkshire ) in the background. While the underside of the box only bears the number ‘0124’, we fully guaranteed this to be made by Liberty of London and the enamel is certainly attributed to the work of C.F. Varley. There is a similar example that sold at Christies Auction in New York , sale #9196, lot #390 that sold for $2,070. and other similar examples having sold for similar amounts.
