It has the outside appearance of a Stratocaster pickup with alnico rod magnets … but as the name implies it has the powerful heart of a P-90 and a soul to match.Great for guitars that have Humbuckers installed in other positions, the Strat pickup position can now compete in terms of output level and sound character. Available as a single pickup too, to suit any position.Our customers asked for a unique new sound so here it is …. the most awesome Strat pickup ever conceived, the Kinman Big Nine-O for Stratocaster. The outside appearance of a Stratocaster pickup with six alnico rod magnets … but with the heart and soul of a P-90.With 7 Henry inductance the Big Nine-O has a surprising amount of twang, deep bass and sweet highs … so sweet it can be used in Jazz at low volume. But best of all is the HUGE output level, it will easily hold it’s own in competition with a P-90 or Humbucker … now that’s amazing for a Strat pickup with Alnico rod magnets, with the bonus of Zero-Hum. Installed in the neck position it produces a HUGE but tidy sound and, like our P-90 Hx neck pickup, doesn’t mush out of control like a typical P-90. The sound retains nice definition and focus even at very high gain. Installed in a set of three, positions 2 and 4 provide unique sounds with the typical Strat in-between flavour only far bigger sounding than normal. In the bridge position the Big Nine-0 growls like a cage full of tigers (think P-90) with the fattest sweetest highs, which is a radical departure from existing Strat pickup sound. Installed to complement a bridge or neck Humbucker the Big Nine-0 provides a perfect level and tonal balance, something existing Strat pickups with Alnico rod magnets could never do. Never before has a Strat pickup of traditional appearance with Alnico six rod magnets produced such awesome power with such a great and unique sound …. this is one sweet but brutal pickup. One of the new generation noiseless pickups coming from Kinman that expand your sonic horizons with unique new sounds. Install requirements: At 25mm tall the Big-Nine-0 is 3mm taller than our regular Strat pickups and will fit most modern guitars but might not fit Vintage reissue guitars so check the cavity depth before ordering. The pickup cavity depth should be no less than 19mm (3/4 inch) deep. But a smaller cavity might be suitable if you shorten the special long mounting screws by up to 3mm, but some adjustment latitude will be sacricifed in this case.Available in 3 magnet spreads (49.5mm/51mm &m 52.5mm) as a single pickup, a set of 2 or a set of 3 (mixed with other models if required). Also available in the Humbucker order channel Mixed set of 3 Humbucker & Strat pickups (HSS and HSH).The Big-Nine-0 works best with a 500k volume pot and develops more high end sizzle and dynamics, much like real P-90. It will work with a 250k vol pot but dynamics and high end sizzle are compromsed to a noticeable degree.The Big-Nine-0 is similar to a P-90 in several ways, same door-slam attack, same high output level. The main difference is it does not have quite the juicy bloom/sizzle of a P-90 Hx unless a 500k volume pot is used.But on the other hand, when playing a mini chord on the wound strings the sound holds together and does not turn mushy (even under heavy pick attack). The P-90, Hx has a tendency to blurr (turn slightly mushy). All other P-90's turn mushy in a BIG way, the P-90 Hx is far superior to them in this regard and the Big-Nine-0 is better again.
