Japanese-ceramics Japanese Fujisawa-yaki Tsubo (jar) by Honma Shinichi This splendid tsubo (jar) with marvelous vitrified emerald glaze is a Fujisawa-yaki ( Fujisawa ware). Fujisawa-yaki is made in the Iwate prefecture, near the village of Fujisawa , located north of Sendai in northern Honshu . Three hundred years ago, that area was the producing center of a pottery called Domeki, made with high quality clay and fired using red pines. The tradition was lost only to be rediscovered at the end of the 20 th century and given a new name: Fujisawa . This particular jar was made at a kiln called Konakogi-gama, founded in 1973, by a potter named Honma Shinichi, born in the same year. The tsubo is in perfect condition. It is signed and comes in a signed box.
