This is the FOLK ART of self taught artist Julie Schronk (Hillsboro, Texas )First...WHAT IS FOLK ART? Folk art is a very old art dating back to the days of slavery when folks took up their pens and ink and put images to paper. Actual slave Bill Traylor used a sharp primitive pencil to draw beautiful horses, cows and everyday scenes of rural life. His work now is worth $35,000 for just one of his drawings. Others came after him just as talented...Grandma Moses, Mattie Lou O'Kelley, Clementine Hunter, Maude Lewis and many many others. Grandma Moses painted diligently until the ripe old age of 100! Not a bad record. Many of these wonderful artists will never be discovered or their work because they don't show it in galleries or even out in the yard...but stay hidden just enjoying and celebrating their craft. Many many are self taught...like me...they have NO formal training at all in the art of FOLK ART just a love of ALL things "folksy". I began painting FOLK ART 15 years ago and have sold hundreds and hundreds of my own FOLK ART paintings to collectors all over the United States in fine homes such as Florida, California, Tennessee and many others. My customers tell me how much my paintings make them smile and that they are REPEAT buyers of my work.I am back on EBAY now full time and these are the types of FOLK ART I paint...Americana. read more
