Late 1940s into early 1950s W. German INDIAN FACE IN PINE CONE. Xmas Ornament Green and silver pine cone, with dark complexion faced Indian face.. Great detail. West German ornament blown in West Germany in the early 1950s. Although imported into the United States, these German ornaments were still not as popular as the plastic ones and the solid color ones (Remember the 1960s and the flood light on a flocked tree decorated with one color ornaments?), they still were the favorites of those who remembered those made before the Great War. But this was really the revival after the World War of this German industry… In these first years, the glass was heavier (to compete with USA glass Corning ornaments) and the lacquer formulas were lost during the war so they had to start over—thus the almost brownish red color. Plus they at first usually glittered the ornament with sparkling snow and did not paint individual eyes, etc. Still a cottage industry as it was before World War II, created in the homes during the winter, to make extra money for their family.
