This is a large and wonderful antique sterling silver inkwell, one of those heavy ornate Victorian examples which are a joy to look at for their richness and opulence of design, and complete with a generous silver overhang covering half its cut crystal/glass body. It is fully hallmarked with the anchor for the assay town of Birmingham struck horizontally to denote pre 1900 small silver items, the lion passant for the sterling standard guarantee, and the date letter 'v' for the year 1895. Maker's mark: HM for Henry Matthews, who else! It is in excellent antique condition with no faults to report, no dents, splits or repairs and no wear holes anywhere, or missing pieces. The glass in in exmplary condition with no chips or cracks, truly a beautiful example. It is missing its little inner liner, but these are readily available nowadays in many sizes online.
