This is a very scarce kitchen related antique toy or advertising item that used to be offered by the Hunter Sifter Company. If you sent them 2 cents in stamps they would send you this 2" tall replica of their full size Hunter Flour Sifter. What a great advertising piece and toy for the household. Kids being kids you know that not a lot of these have survived the ravages of time and playtime use.This example is in very good condition with tin and solder in great shape. Even the original screen is free of holes and in good shape. The mechanism turns properly but does rub the screen. One of the wire sifter dashers is slightly bent which causes this rub. I didn't want to take the chance of seriously damaging the piece so I never tried adjusting this wire, but you can if it bothers you. NOTE: There are a total of three "dasher wires" that turn to sift the flour but it appears from the photos that there are only two. The biggest issue with this toy is that the lettering that is embossed into the tin sides is very faint. It isn't from wear or rust because there is none. The original stamping that was to have embossed these letters into the tin before it was assembled was just not set to high enough pressure resulting in a faint strike.All that can be easily read is "HUNTER'S ___ SIFTER , PAT. APR 7, '74,BUY A LARGE ONE" but I can't get read more
