Houghton/Butcher Ensign Pocket E-20 Folding Camera, Made in England ca. 1935Item Description & Condition Details. The Ensign Pocket E-20 folding camera was a very simple device manufactured in England by Houghton-Butcher in the 1930’s. Similar to a standard “box” camera, the focus is fixed (although there is a crude focus adjustment on this model), and shutter speeds are limited. The aperture is fixed as well (at f/11), limiting photos to bright daylight shots. The camera accepts 120 film. This particular example is in very good condition. There is moderate wear along the edges of the cameras exterior where the leatherette is worn down to the metal chassis, but the cladding shows little adhesion loss or liftoff with the exception of the area located around the winding knob and bellows door release. The bellows is in good shape visually, but unsure of light leaks (not tested). The lens plate looks great with some wear where either it contacts the bellows door when stowed or where the surface has worn from operating the shutter mode switch. The viewfinder has some minor corrosion and dust and debris is visible inside. The shutter functions as it should in both modes. The lens optics are clean with no fungus or dust noted.
