Original scorched (White House burned in War of 1812)1790's era brick removed from the White House during the expansive renovations undertaken by President Harry S. Truman in 1950 measuring 8.5" by 4.25" by 2.5 " with varying amounts of mortar on the sides. This lot includes the extensive provenance listed below; 1.) A laminated color copy of the bronze plaque with a presidential seal that reads in full, "Original White House Material, Removed in 1950," 2.) Copies of two 1951 letters to the original recipient from the Commission on Renovation of the Executive Mansion. 3.) Copies of two bill of lading for the shipment of the White House material, from the railroad shipping companies. 4.) Copy of a newspaper clipping detailing the White House renovation. 5.Copy of notarized letter detailing the chain of custody of the bricks. A similar White House brick recently sold for $1,663 at RR Auction in April 2019.
