Miniature (see photo for more details). Here we have a most interesting specimen of a cluster of pyrite crystals that have been replaced (Pseudomorphed) by the iron mineral hematite. The pyrite originally formed under marine conditions and was later replaced by the mineral hematite. The pyrite crystal forms are readily visible and fairly sharp. This area is famous for its hematite pseudormorps which include the replacement of many different things including various minerals such as pyrite and marcasite as well as fossils such as pieces of wood'•• tree branches and various marine shells just to mention a few. Please note that with the present political conditions in Egypt at this time it is unlikely that there will be more of these specimens available for some time (if ever)!PhotographyAll of our photos are taken with a 75Watt GE True White incandescent bulb.
