Miniature Hand Decorated PearlwarePratt Decorated Shamrock PlateStaffordshire England c 1 790This is a striking miniature creamy earthenware plate richly hand decorated in an earthy four color Pratt motif of blue , green , gold and brown with a blue pearlware glaze. The tiny plate measures 3-3/8 inches in diameter with a rouletted rim. It is painted with na ve childlike precision with a moulded thistle in the center and moulded roses and Prince of Wales feather plumes on the edge.The plate was originally made as a child's toy dating to the late 18th c entury. Typical of these very early toy dishes, the plate bears no makers mark and the exact maker is unknown, though it most certainly was made in Staffordshire or a northern potting district of England. The back of the plate bears a sticker from the 'Ludlow Sale'.The plate is in overall fair condition having been broken in three pieces and neatly reglued. N o other chips cracks or repairs. Not fine pottery and not meant to be. Made for childs play and probably considered disposable. Glaze pooling kiln kisses kiln dust and other minor typical imperfections from the making process, adding to the authenticity of this antique toy. Sold as is, as shown and as described. This is one of the prettiest and simplest hand decorated motifs we've found; a lovely addition to an AAFA folk art collection. read more
