A Graphic State of Mind (user ID agraphicstateofmind) was an eBay fixture from 1998 to 2005, at which point I, Robert Wayne Dennis, launched the Lewis Wayne Gallery (lewiswaynegallery) with Jim Lewis Halperin. As of 2015, I am now back as A Graphic State of Mind (agraphicstateofmind2015). Tailspin Tommy Original Comic Strip Art dated Oct. 13, 1938HAL FORREST (b. 1895) attended the Art Institute of Chicago before joining the Aviation Section of the Signal Corps during WWI (incidentally, at age 17, Forrest became the youngest scoutmaster in the U.S.). He drew the first aviation comic strip, Artie the Ace , before developing the Tailspin Tommy strip in 1928. It became enormously popular with radio shows and movies based on the character, before being canceled in 1942.This is the original art to strip number 3258 which was syndicated on Oct. 13, 1938 . It is in great condition with some minor staining in the first panel. This art has been professionally cleaned with museum grade archival materials. Professional cleaning not only removes stains, which diminishes the visual appeal, but also removes the impurities which had greatly increased the acids in the paper. By doing so, the acid content is reset to zero and the paper fibers regain their strength and suppleness. There is some minor over-painting of rust stains in the top margin area and above the top row of hats in the first panel. A large remnant of the art extender for the European market is still on top of the margin area to the left of the first panel. read more
