Offered is a bound volume of Graham’s American Monthly Magazine. January thru December 1847. Philadelphia: George Graham & Co. Half Leather. Loaded with 6color fashion plates and 3 BWE fashion plates. Also many wonderful engravings. There are five powerful Karl Bodmer engravings of North American Indians . Signed "Drawn by Ch. Bodmer " (Karl Bodmer changed his first name to Charles after his return to Europe in 1839) and at lower right "Engraved by Rawdon, Wright & Hatch". Included are – Herds of Bison and Elk on the Upper Missouri, Fox & Saukie Indians, Mandan Women (with short text), Fort Mackenzie (with text) and An Assinoboin Lodge (with text). Also two engravings by John Sartain – The Departure & Portrait of Gen Zachary Taylor with a story. Included is a nice Portrait of Victoria, Princess Royal by John Lucas and engraved by A L Dick . Victoria Adelaide Mary Louise, (daughter of Queen Victoria of England) was born on 21 November 1840 at Buckingham Palace, London. She was created Princess Royal of the United Kingdom and by her marriage to the German Emperor Frederick III, became a German Empress and Queen of Prussia.
