Glassmasters van Gogh Bank of the Oise stained glass

The is a new 9.5" x 11.25" kiln-fired stained glass adaptation of Vincent van Gogh's Bank of the Oise , reproduced by Glassmasters from the collection of the Detroit Institute of Art. Impressionist masterpiece adaptations lent themselves particularly to Glassmasters' method of stained glass creation. This panel is no exception. The stunning painting that inspired this tableuu is characteristic of work from van Gogh's "Auvers period" - mosaic-like brushstrokes, forceful brushwork, bright colors such as the lively, vivid green blue and bright red which give a sense of cheerfulness. As with all Glassmasters stained glass panels, all custom enamel paints used were put down one color at a time. Each layer was then dried at 300 degrees Fahrenheit . Once as many as 21 layers of color were applied, the panel was then kiln-fired at 1100 degrees Fahrenheit, at which temperature the glass became porous and almost melted, allowing the enamels to penetrate the surface of the glass, permanently fusing with it. This process achieved vibrant colors that can withstand decades, if not centuries in direct sunlight. A testament to craftsmanship, each panel they made was worked on by at least a dozen pairs of hands. Unfortunately, Glassmasters craft shop in Richmond, VA ceased operations in 2005, so stained glass panels of this quality are no longer being made here in the USA.The new stained glass panel comes framed in a lead-free tin came, and is individually boxed with a chain suitable for hanging, and a lucite stand for convenient tabletop display. read more
