George F. Barber's "The Cottage Souvenir No. 2 - A Repository of Artistic Cottage Architecture and Miscellaneous Designs" This book is a re-publishing of the George Barber Company's original Cottage Souvenir No. 2, done in 1982. It includes the original plans and descriptions of the mail-order catalog along with an introduction by Michael Tomlan. Barber, while not the originator, was probably the most famous mail-order house plan architect. This 168 page book contains plans and illustrations (along with a few photos) of plans that you could have ordered from his company just prior to the turn of the 20th century. Its a wonderful book for those interested in the history of American architecture, especially of the late-Victorian period. I purchased this book years ago when we owned a Barber home in Mt. Pleasant, IA and hope it can perhaps go to another lover of Victorian architecture.
