A squat black painted ancient Apulian Greek lekythos (oil juglet), ca. 400 - 350 BC. The lekythos, recomposed from many fragments with infill to tiny missing areas, has about 50- 60% of the original black paint, a very nice piece in spite of the damage. 7-1/4" (18.4cm) tall, 3-1/4" (8.3cm) max. diameter, not sold mounted, furnished with the freestanding descriptive placard shown in the photos. Apulia is a region of Southern Italy, its' most southern portion, known as Salento peninsula, forms a high heel on the "boot" of Italy. A very nice piece of ancient Greek pottery, displays very well, nice glossy black color where the finish remains. I will furnish a color photocopy, laminated in clear plastic, of an identical lekythos located in the collection of a major university, for complete, permanent, dating and culture documentation.
