Antique Frank Boggess Card Photo - MUSTACHED MAN IN A PULLMAN UNIFORM - c. very early 20th century. Heavy-weight gray-surfaced laminated stock with beveled edges - measures 5 x 7".Apparent gelatin silver b/w print with rich velvety tones and strong silvery reflections to the darkest areas - measures 4 x 5.5". Photographer's credits blind-stamped on the card below the right bottom edge of the photo: Frank Boggess, Artist . The photographer for this portrait, Frank Boggess, had a traveling photography business and his own railroad car used for that purpose. He was based in Illinois (Monmouth, Winchester, and perhaps other specific locales) but he got around quite a bit. Collectors of railroad photos from this era will be familiar with him. His car was, at least for awhile, billed as "Frank's Fine Art Car" and we have personally seen other of his photographs credited as such. Here, however, he is credited by his actual name. There are snippets of information about him in many sources about photography around the turn of the 20th century, but we have been unable to locate any in-depth biography of him. This Boggess image is a 3/4-figure standing portrait of a uniformed young man with a fine wax-tipped mustache.
