You Are Purchasing a Fenton Plum Opalescent Vase. Plum Opalescent Color was originally developed in 1959. Made from pure gold and phosphate, the glass batch is clear when first formed and requires the glass maker's skill to coax out its resplendent color. Cooling the piece and then reheating it in the fire causes the gold crystals to grow and turn plum and the phosphate crystals to strike white. Each piece varies from clear to purple to white with no two being exactly alike. The vase is beautiful and although pre-owned it is in mint condition with no cracks, chips or crazing. The vase is 8 inches tall, and 6 3/8 inches wide. The base is approximately 3 1/2 inches in diameter. The vase is decorated with daffodils and has a ruffled top. Photos do not do it justice. (20B)
