EXTREMELY RARE SILVER REPLACED PETRIFIED WOOD - NORTHERN NEW MEXICO Location where specimen collected is in process of being reclaimed. These specimens will soon no longer be available! Description: This exquisite extremely rare 200 to 250 Million Year old Triassic Era Silver Replaced Conifer Petrified Wood specimen is from Northern New Mexico! The location of where this wood has been found is the only known world-wide location where petrified wood has been replaced with copper and silver ores! Millions of years ago the Conifer trees in this area were buried by a geologic event and then over millenia the area experienced geothermal activity that literally fried the trees underground. Over time microscopic silver minerals contained in the water replaced the wood fibers through a process of ionization. Publications have verified that through spectro-photometric analysis there is silver contained in the mineralized wood. The analysis was performed by Lee A. Woodward of the Department of Geology, University of New Mexico, Albuquerque, New Mexico; William H. Kaufman of Kerr-McGee Corporation, Albuquerque, New Mexico; and Otto L. Schumacher of the Bureau of Land Management, Lewistown, Montana. This area is located in the Chinle Formation. Primary ore content of this specimen is silver (roughly 7 ounces based upon weight)!
