This auction is for a most beautiful antique Victorian French iridescent silk damask textile fragment salvaged from the underside of a handmade silk velvet quilt. It was given to me from a friend who was born in France and the backing was removed, since there were some tears as well as the silk velvet quilt shattering throughout…..This is lightweight, but not flimsy. It is pure silk and its texture is smooth. This will billow/pouf and stay in place (see Photo 4). It will gather tightly and it appears that it would pleat when ironed after testing it. After performing a gentle tug test, it appears to be in good condition. I also recommend that a fine silk thread be used and preferably hand-stitched…This is an absolutely stunning textile and should be used for one's special project.
