EX RARE DR WALL WORCESTER R HANCOCK BOWL & SAUCERc1763 RARE & MINT CONDITION A very rare eighteenth century Dr Wall Worcester soft paste porcelain tea bowl and matching saucer in pristine condition printed with a Robert Hancock transfer print c1763-5. The tea bowl and saucer both with prints of highly charismatic landscapes depicting classical ruins and an obelisk, these particular prints are very rare and the designs show Hancock’s ability to create perspective through depth of cut with his engraver, for an illustration of this exact print on the saucer sold by Simon Spero (London) in 1978, see p154 within ‘18 th Century English Transfer-Printed Porcelain and Enamels- The Joseph M Hanley Collection, this print is also illustrated in ‘Transfer Printed Worcester Porcelain- Manchester City Art Galleries No 75. It is interesting to note that the prints on the saucer are near identical but with slight variations with the two trees version and the palm trees appearing on my piece like on the cup sold by Simon Spero. The items I offer are in absolutely fabulous condition, saucer measures 5 ¼ inches in diameter and is in mint condition bar one surface irregularity/ production flaw under foot ring (illustrated- photo 22) & very minor rubbing to print, the tea bowl which measures 3 ½ inches diameter and stands 1 15/16 inches tall and has what appears to be a small production flaw to inside of rim (illustrated- photo 23) and a minute glaze frit/ chip on edge of rim (illustrated - last photo) of miniscule significance but mentioned for accuracy nonetheless.
