Offered here is and extremely RARE MATCHING CASED PAIR OF JOHN ENGSTROM STRAIGHT RAZORS! Engstrom was in business in Eskilstuna, Sweden from 1874 till his death in 1915. John Engstrom was arguable the most successfull and finest of the Eskilstuna razor makers. Had he not died in 1915 his work would have no doubt surpassed that of C. V. Heljestrand and even Klas Tornblom! The secret to Engstroms success was that he studied razor making at both Sheffield (England) AND Solingen (Germany) and combined the knowledge from both areas to make his special razor steel. Engstrom razors are EXCEPTIONAL in the steel used for their manufacture. Engstrom was so proud of his steel that he named it "Dannemora-Gjustal," as is stamped on the razors. This was his proprietary name for his own special cast steel. Engstrom wasn't the only one who thought his razors were special. He won gold medals in exhibitions in his native Sweden, Paris and Philadelphia. Please note, these medal winning dates and locations are stamped on the razors tangs. This pair of razors is ABSOLUTELY A FANTASTIC SHAVING SET! They are INCREDIBLY SHARP, due to Engstroms own steel making process, and have survived BEAUTIFULLY (and incredibly) over 120 years. We know the razors date by the last medal won as stamped on the tang: 1889. Engstrom went on to win more medals until his demise in 1915 the company was dissolved in 1917. This pair is an EXTRAORDINARY set preserved from the late 19th century that is STILL FUNCTIONAL TODAY as it was when new! This set was an EXPENSIVE set in its day. The box is covered in a FINE GILDED MOROCCO (Super High Quality Leather trimmed in gold) and the inside is furnished in fine ROYAL BLUE CRUSHED VELVET and GOLD embossed WHITE SILK. The silk has the gold embossing of Engstroms name and the Gold Medals he won for these razors! This is TRULY a HIGH QUALITY SOPHISTICATED HIGH CLASS SET! This no doubt belonged to a gentleman of means (rich) and was highly thought off as it has survived VERY WELL into our times! PLEASE DON'T MISS IT!
